The multi-material red and blue box kerbside recycling service currently collects recyclable material from over 115,000 households. The aim is to recycle 16,000 tonnes of materials each year. £1 is donated to Save the Children for every tonne of materials collected.
The following items are accepted:
Blue box: food and drink cans; empty aerosol cans; clean tinfoil; glass
bottles and jars; paper in the blue bag (including magazines, newspapers and
all telephone directories, including Yellow Pages); and textiles in the
Salvation Army bags.
Red box: card; cardboard; cardboard food and drink cartons and cereal
boxes.
The Garden Waste kerbside scheme has collected over 40,000 tonnes of garden
waste for composting since the collection began in 2003. Over 100,000
households now receive this service.

The following items are accepted:
Blue box: newspapers; magazines; paper; catalogues; contents of
unwanted mail; telephone directories; Yellow Pages, cardboard and envelopes.
Green box: glass bottles and jars; food and drink cans; plastic bottles;
empty aerosol cans; crockery.

The following items are accepted: telephone directories (including Yellow Pages); envelopes; paper (including newspapers, magazines and unwanted mail); food and drink cans; card; glass bottles and jars; plastic bottles - types 1 (PET) and 2 (HDPE) only.

The multi-material kerbside recycling service collects the following: food and drink cans; plastic bottles (all types); clean plastic wrapping/film; clear plastic food trays; plastic bags (clean, empty,not black bags); empty aerosols (no lids); cardboard packaging (including cereal boxes, kitchen roll tubes and cardboard boxes); cardboard drinks cartons (e.g. Tetra Pak); envelopes; paper (including catalogues and brochures, unwanted mail, magazines and newspapers) and telephone directories (including Yellow Pages).
In urban areas, green-lidded wheeled bins have been provided to recycle garden waste. In rural areas free home compost bins have been provided to compost garden and kitchen waste at home. For more information, See GARDEN WASTE.

West Lothian

A blue bin kerbside collection service is in operation in certain areas. You can request any number or combination of blue bins in the following sizes: 140 litre, 240 litre (standard size bin) and 360 litre.
The following items are accepted: food and drink cans; food and drink cardboard cartons; paper (including newspapers, magazines, brochures, catalogues and junk mail); telephone directories (including Yellow Pages); lightweight card (card food packaging, cereal boxes, kitchen and toilet roll tubes, washing powder boxes); old clothes and plastic bottles - types 1 (PET) and 2 (HDPE) only.
