Colinton Community Compost collect green waste from 600 homes in the Colinton area. Special collections are available on request. They accept green waste from the public and contractors, and ask for a donation in return for the service. All proceeds go towards the running of community activities. For details contact:

East Lothian
85% of households in East Lothian are offered the chance to take part in the regular collection for garden waste. This collection uses a brown, wheeled bin to collect garden waste every fortnight during the summer and every four weeks from November to February. All the material collected is sent for composting and then used as a soil conditioner on agricultural land in East Lothian.
Areas not covered by the regular garden waste collection can arrange to have their garden waste collected. Please make sure bundles of branches etc. are not longer than 1.2m. For further information contact:

Scottish Borders
In urban areas, green-lidded wheeled bins have been provided to allow householders to recycle garden waste. In 2007, these collections start on 2nd April and end on 2nd November.
In rural areas, householders are given a free home compost bin to compost garden and kitchen waste at home.
