Reduce:

Hire DVDs, videos and computer games rather than buying new ones. Many libraries also have CDs to borrow.


Reuse:

Original versions of these items can be donated to most charity shops See Charity Shops , sold at car boot sales or in second-hand music shops. See Sort It (W: www.sort-it.org.uk) or the Yellow Pages (W: www.yell.com) for a list of second-hand music shops in your area.


Original version CDs, DVDs, tapes and videos are accepted at The British Heart Foundation (BHF) Book Recycling Points at the Edinburgh, Midlothian and Scottish Borders Community Recycling Centres (CRCs). The Salvation Army has Book Recycling Points at the CRCs in East Lothian. These items are sold in their shops to raise funds. See Community Recycling Centres.

Old CDs and DVDs can be hung up in your garden, allotment or balcony to deter birds from your seedlings and fruit bushes etc.


Recycle:

The magnetic tape has to be landfilled, but everything else can be recycled. Due to this landfill cost, there is a charge for recycling: £15 for 50 items or £25 for 150 items, but if you pull out the tape yourself and dispose of it, the recycling is free. You might like to collect tapes from friends and family to make up the numbers.
